My Structuration Techniques

Which moments in your life did you achieve most things (being relentless, maintaining deadlines, achieving results, etc)? Which work and planification techniques did you use? What other techniques did you use (type of environment, self-talk, social interactions, etc)?

Abitur (high school degree): achieving 99% completion and top 1% of school

  • Wrote out learning content and goals
  • Planned out deadlines and kept them
  • Acknowledged my “lazy part” (who did not want to learn) to be most efficient
  • Failure was not an option (mindset)

Harp (national competition): reached #1 rank of my state and went to national level

  • Consistency: played every day
  • Focussed on key mistakes (80/20)
  • Having a harp teacher to supervise
  • Having parents who forced me to play (especially when I did not want to)

BDE (campaigning): managed the student body campaign intensively for two weeks

  • Wrote out goals and deadlines
  • Delegated what others could do, and worked on what only I could do (best)
  • Surrounded myself with others to work
  • Peer / social pressure on deadlines
  • Genuine desire for success

Intense week (personal): killed the game with 22 challenges in 10 days

  • Wrote out goals and deadlines
  • Planned in advance and sticked to plan
  • Social stake through Facebook sharing
  • Used past frustration of failure to trigger greatness

Other thoughts

  • General tendency to do the easiest first

Key Learnings On Successful Past Structures

Overall Work Structure: Plan it right

  • Plan out measurement of success (main KPI = $ made) and milestones (sub-KPI, sub-goals and deadlines)
  • Delegate to others whenever possible
  • Involve other people into the project

Daily Work Habits: For continuous success

  • Consistency: do a bit every day (so that it becomes a habit)
  • Put yourself in a work environment with other people working

Motivation: When you’re mentally stuck

  • Acknowledge your laziness to focus on the most important (apply 80/20 rule)
  • Use your past frustration / failure to motivate yourself to achieve your vision
  • Remind yourself that this is a free decision and that failure is not an option
  • It’s okay to do easiest first if that puts you into a flow state / motivates you
  • Do great work that you’re proud of
